Mobile health services provide relief to unpaid caregivers
23 August 2019
Meet Barb. Barb is taking care of her ailing father and has a full-time job, husband, and two kids. She spends an average of two-three hours a day on caregiving activities for her father in addition to her other family responsibilities. Barb says she is continuously exhausted, stressed and has no time for herself, which affects her health and wellbeing.
Her story is the reality for an estimated 2.5 million Ontarians who work and are un-paid caregivers to someone who is ill, disabled, or aging. Across Canada, 3 in 10 people are caregivers.
According to The Change Foundation, most caregivers said that caregiving had an impact on their job.
- Being late for work
- Leaving early from work
- Missing an average of six days of work
- Leaving employment (having quit or been fired) because of caregiving
