Today’s Organizations Need to Offer Extra Health Benefits for Employee Retention

It’s a challenging landscape, and it is becoming harder and harder to find qualified employees to fill positions. According to the Canada Human Resources Centre, filling a vacant position can take anywhere from 4 – 15 weeks depending on the type of job. And after all, that, if you hire a bad employee versus a good one you might have to go through the entire process all over again.

In recent years, many companies in the silicon-valley and elsewhere have implemented various employee benefits all designed to increase the likelihood that employees will stay put. Many of these benefits are health related. Employees today see the value of having good physical and mental health and so incorporating extra health benefits into your organization can be a great way to retain employees.

Blame it on the millennials

Millennials have changed the recruiting landscape. According to studies on millennials, they will stay at an organization longer if they have more benefits and more room for growth. They will also leave an organization much faster than the older generation if they aren’t fulfilled in their role. This has also rubbed off on the older generation too as they see that things are changing and they are no longer happy to trudge through day by day when they see others making changes that improve their quality of life.

It is much cheaper to pay for more employees benefits than it is to find new employees

When you consider that the average cost of recruiting an employee is 20% of their salary. Incorporating more health benefits into your organization can be a cheaper expense in the long run. Some of the more common costs include paying for website fees to post job ads, going out to job fairs, not to mention onboarding and training costs. Once you do the math it is rarely cheaper to find a new employee so why not make sure their health is a top priority, leading to all the benefits for your organization mentioned in our previous post.

Mobile benefits are better than standard ones

Offering extra health benefits to your employees is one thing, having them partake within your companies four walls, even better. There is less time away from work, so employees get the best of both worlds. Mobile is also a way for a company to stand out from the crowd. Competition for skilled workers is fierce, and you never know what sways a person to choose your organization over another. Special in-house benefits can mean the difference between a company that keeps that firecracker employee or loses them.
